Job Summary

  • An Electromyography (EMG) Technician, also known as a Neurodiagnostic Technologist, is a healthcare professional who specializes in conducting EMG tests to assess the electrical activity of muscles and nerves. This role involves working closely with patients, neurologists, and other medical professionals to diagnose conditions affecting muscle and nerve function. The technician is responsible for preparing patients, operating EMG equipment, and ensuring accurate data collection and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Explain procedures to patients to ensure understanding and alleviate any concerns.
  • Position patients correctly for optimal testing results.
  • Prepare the patient's skin and apply electrodes to the appropriate sites.
  • Perform EMG tests and nerve conduction studies as prescribed by the physician.
  • Operate and calibrate EMG and NCS equipment.
  • Monitor patient status and comfort during testing.
  • Identify and document abnormal test results for physician review.
  • Accurately record test data and patient information.
  • Prepare detailed test reports for physician interpretation.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Stay updated with the latest EMG techniques and technologies.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities and professional organizations.
  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Comply with organizational policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Must travel to other CLS Health locations
  • Performed other duties assigned

  • Requirements
  • Associate degree in Neurodiagnostic Technology or related field preferred.
  • Certification from an accredited Electroneurodiagnostic (END) program is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience as an EMG Technician or in a related neurodiagnostic role is preferred.
  • Certification by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish speaking).
  • Strong understanding of neurophysiology and EMG/NCS procedures.
  • Proficiency in operating EMG and NCS equipment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
  • Compassionate and patient-focused approach.
  • Ability to lift and position patients as necessary.
  • Manual dexterity to operate EMG equipment.
