• POSITION SUMMARY

• DEFINITION
• Under general direction, provides direct supportive care to patients. May perform designated procedures under supervision of the Registered Nurse or Physician within their scope of practice.

• POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
• Education
• Education supplemented by vocational training in para-medical program (EMT-1 or Paramedic). Or an accredited LVN program as evidenced by licensure.

Experience

• Previous experience as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-1, paramedic or LVN) preferred but not required.

License or Certificate

• BLS certification through AHA only
• EMT certification or Licensed Paramedic
• Or current California LVN licensure with IV certification
• Phlebotomy State Certification (if not licensed paramedic or LVN with IV cert)
• Basic arrhythmia (preferred)

• KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

Knowledge of

• Anatomy and physiology
• Medical modalities.
• Basic arrhythmia
• Basic EMT procedures.
• Modern office equipment, information system and software programs
• Report writing.

Ability to

• Understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, standards, and procedures.
• Keep abreast of developments in the field of expertise.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Prepare necessary reports and records.
• Manage emergency or crisis situations; requires judgment/action which could result in undesirable patient outcomes.

• Maintains, demonstrates and is assessed on the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for the physical, psychosocial and cultural needs appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
