We have an Elastic Search cluster that has been in operation for many years. The cluster is running on ES version 5.7 and we want to upgrade it to version 9. SCOPE OF WORK: Phase 1 – Upgrade Project * Review our current Elastic Search environment, including cluster setup, indices, mappings, and plugins. * Design a step-by-step upgrade/migration plan (since a direct jump from 5.6 to 9 is not possible, intermediate versions may be required). * Implement best practices for snapshot backups, testing, and rollback plans. * Perform the upgrade on a staging/test clusters first, validate performance, and resolve any compatibility issues. * Successfully upgrade the production cluster(s) to Elastic Search 9. .* Provide documentation and knowledge transfer to our internal team. Phase 2 – Long-Term Maintenance * Ongoing monitoring of Elastic Search cluster health and performance. * Regular upgrades, patches, and security updates. * Fine-tuning of index settings, shard allocation, and query performance. * Troubleshooting and resolving cluster-related issues. * Optimisation to ensure reliability and scalability as our data grows. * Support for integration with Kibana, Logstash, Beats, or other Elastic Stack components as needed. REQUIREMENTS * Proven experience upgrading Elastic Search clusters across multiple major versions. * Strong understanding of Elastic Search architecture, indexing, shards, replicas, and cluster scaling. * Experience handling backward-incompatible changes between major versions. * Familiarity with snapshot/restore, reindexing APIs, index template migrations, and plugin compatibility. * Hands-on experience with long-term management of Elastic Search clusters in production. * Experience with Kibana and Elastic Stack components * Excellent communication skills and ability to provide clear documentation.
