My website is currently built on a custom-coded theme. I am seeking a "rebuild" from this custom-coded theme to a theme called Blocksy. I must make clear that this is not a recreation of the website. This "rebuild" will allow me to achieve the following objectives: 1) Move to an editing-friendly setup (blocks/builder + reusable patterns) so I can add/update pages without needing a developer. 2) Have a clean URL foundation: The website was taken over from another group of owners, and the current redirect history is messy (many aliases, chains, and variants). A rebuild lets me standardize URLs once, collapse chains, and stop the ongoing patchwork. 3) Better performance & stability: Replacing the custom-coded theme with a lean, supported stack to improve speed, reliability, and compatibility. 4) SEO hygiene baked in: Clear taxonomy, consistent canonicals for filters, clean sitemaps/robots—so crawl and indexing are predictable. IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS OF THE "REBUILD" 1) We must preserve existing slugs wherever possible to preserve link equity. 2) Replace any A→B→C redirect chains with single-hop 301 redirects (A→C) and use regex rules to collapse price/size/ID variants. Outside of this, we’re going to only use 301s where absolutely necessary and these should be done with the guidance of the website owner. 3) Set canonical / noindex for filter and sort URLs. Prevent duplication with clear canonical rules and one clean URL per intent. 4) Process: Rebuild on password-protected staging site, QA there, and cut over only when stable, but not before website owner's review. 5) Staging must be noindexed. On launch refresh the sitemaps, verify robots, and monitor 404s. 6) Improve the blog layout and functionality. 7) Provide a quick guide/tutorial of how to add/update pages, etc. to website owner before launch. 8) I'd like to know what your approach would be to the "rebuild" aspect of this job.
