- The East Valley Director is responsible for the leadership, development and implementation of Frost Valley’s residential Farm Camp (~80 campers) and East Valley Ranch (~55 campers, all girls equestrian program), as well as all year-round programs within the East Valley. Key responsibilities include camper and guest recruitment, staff hiring, training and supervision, fiscal management, and program design and operations.
- A strong background in overnight camp administration is required and previous experience managing multiple programs preferred. The Director ensures that the Camping Services & Year-Round Programs Departments exceed expectations for staff, campers, and guests while advancing the mission of Frost Valley YMCA.
- This position is a year-round, live-on-site role with private housing provided.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead and supervise the East Valley team, including 1-2 year-round program staff, the farm operations manager and more than 40 seasonal staff each summer.
- Provide active leadership and direct oversight for all year-round and summer residential programs.
- Ensure the highest safety standards for campers, guests, and staff; maintain compliance with Department of Health regulations and ACA accreditation standards.
- Serve as the primary contact for families and guests, developing strong, trusting relationships and providing outstanding customer service.
- Drive camper and guest recruitment strategies; work with marketing, guest services, and program teams to meet and exceed enrollment goals.
- Lead seasonal staff recruitment and hiring efforts.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director of Camping Services on budget development and provide financial oversight to East Valley staff.
- Coordinate and communicate with all support departments. This includes, but is not limited to, Food Service, Maintenance, Housekeeping, Health Services, and IT.
- Collaborate with the Equestrian team to support the 45-horse program and barn operations.
- Oversee farm operations to ensure high-quality farm programming and a robust, sustainable farm operation.
- Cultivate and maintain external partnerships to support recruitment and program goals.
- Design and implement staff training for summer staff, in collaboration with other camp directors
- Collaborate with the Program Quality team to design and implement innovative, mission-driven programming that drives growth and expansion
- Partner with the Executive Director team to monitor program quality and ensure a progressive, innovative, and robust camp and program experience.
- Champion adherence to personnel policies while fostering a positive, cohesive, and motivated staff culture.
- Lead and model Frost Valley’s equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts; actively advance DEI through programming and staff leadership.
- Create a joyful and engaging camp environment that balances fun with opportunities for growth and challenge.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Camping Services.

- Requirements
- Must be 25 years of age or older
- Bachelor’s degree in related field, or a minimum of 5 years progressively responsible supervisory experience in a resident camp or outdoor education setting
- Minimum of 3 years of year-round camp leadership and administrative experience
- Demonstrated success in recruitment and retention, program development, staff supervision, and budget management across multiple programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to collaborate across departments.
- Ability to multitask and perform under pressure.
- Enthusiasm for working with children, teens, families, and staff.
- Knowledge of horses, riding styles, and livestock preferred, or a willingness to learn.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, on-call responsibilities, and occasional overnight travel.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
- Employee may be required to traverse on rough terrain.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
