  • About the Job
  • The Disability and Inclusion Youth Manager (D&I Youth Manager) at Shalom Austin will drive and nurture disability and inclusion initiatives across the organization, with a particular focus on those pertaining to youth programs. With dual responsibilities, the manager will be a part of Jewish Family Service and will provide personalized support to individuals and families with disabilities, collaborating closely with JFS case management professionals. They will also spearhead efforts to enhance accessibility within Shalom Austin’s youth programs, engaging stakeholders in program development. The Disability and Inclusion Youth Manager will work closely with the Disability and Inclusion Manager, Senior Youth and Teen Director, and JCamps Director, and will serve as a primary resource for disability needs, strengthen inclusion programming, guide volunteer opportunities, and facilitate focus groups to develop a comprehensive vision. Additionally, they will initiate groundwork for future initiatives, engage with donors, and cultivate partnerships with disability advocates and organizations.

You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities

  • Key Responsibilities
  • Create an atmosphere of full inclusion in all youth and teen programs throughout the year and work to expand our camps inclusion program and its reach.
  • Provide support to caregivers of children with disabilities in identifying resources and professionals in the community who can assist with accommodations, as well as help determine how to partner with Shalom Austin to meet their children’s needs.
  • In collaboration with Disability and Inclusion Manager, assist in running Shalom Austin’s Supported Employment Program throughout the year.
  • In collaboration with Disability and Inclusion Manager, act as a resource for Shalom Austin staff working with youth with disabilities, training and providing the resources they need to successfully support children and their families.
  • Provide seamless integration for youth and their families in all programs at Shalom Austin, ensuring a child who attends after-school programming during the year with accommodations will also be successfully integrated into JCamps and other programs, and that their family will feel supported and welcome throughout their lifetime at Shalom Austin!
  • Consult with the rest of the organization on program accommodations.
  • JCamps specific responsibilities
  • Serve as an integral member of the JCamps Admin team, including attending team meetings, shaping program direction, and supporting the development of camp policies.
  • Oversee the Inclusion Program including, hiring, and supervising Inclusion Counselors and pairing the counselors with Inclusion campers based on their needs.
  • Maintain appropriate paperwork on children who receive accommodations.
  • Plan and implement communication plans, such as daily communication reports, between Inclusion Counselors and the families they work with.
  • Participate in planning sessions before the start of camp.
  • Train seasonal camp staff on all aspects of the Inclusion Program during orientation.
  • Address camper behaviors in and out of the Inclusion Program.
  • Provide ongoing support for all camp staff during the summer months.
  • Communicate with parents regarding: Accidents, Illnesses, & Incidents.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Requirements
  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Education/Special Education, Social Work, Child Development, Transition Services, or related field. Preferred: Master’s Degree.
  • Required: At least three to five years of relevant experience with children’s programming. Preferred: five to seven years.
  • Required: At least one year of supervisory experience. Preferred: three to five years.
  • Required: Previous experience working and evaluating large programs. Preferred: Experience working in an organization or company in a role working with people with disabilities/inclusion services or personal experiences as a family member (or yourself) who has advocated for an individual with disabilities.
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • CPR/First-Aid certified (If not certified already, willing to become certified.)
  • Ability to thrive working independently and on a team. Demonstrates ability to take initiative for independent work and as a team member.
  • Excellent project management skills, with ability to manage multiple tasks, focusing on the intricate and miniscule details.
  • Ability to create organized systems for data, communication, etc.
  • Ability to effectively address multiple tasks at the same time and ability to interact with people of diverse backgrounds required.
  • Comfortable driving a 15-passenger van.
  • Comfortable in and around pool and water activities.
  • Familiarity with best practices regarding disability and inclusion, and with language specific to special education in the state of Texas.
