  • The Director of Marine Operations oversees all aspects of a company’s maritime activities,
  • ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations of vessels, crew, and facilities. This leader develops and implements operational policies, ensures regulatory compliance, manages budgets, and drives continuous improvement to deliver exceptional service and operational excellence.
  • Responsibilities
  • Safety first; ensure all safety / security rules and regulations are followed. Develop and update safety / security regulations when needed. Establish Company Security and Vessel Security Officers.
  • Operational Leadership
  • Oversee day-to-day marine operations including port captain, engineering, dock crew and maintenance.
  • Ensure smooth coordination between marine, engineering, hospitality, and administrative teams.
  • Develop and execute operational strategies to meet performance, safety, and financial goals.
  • Manage and facilitate special projects.
  • Dry dock planning and execution.
  • Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure all vessels, crew, and operations comply with U.S. Coast Guard and local maritime regulations.
  • Establish and maintain safety management systems, emergency procedures, and crew training programs.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and incident investigations to ensure a culture of safety.
  • Crew Management
  • Recruit, train, and supervise captains, deckhands, and support staff.
  • Promote a positive work culture focused on safety, service, and professional growth.
  • Partner with Human Resources to ensure a positive employee life cycle.
  • Budget & Resource Management
  • Develop and manage budgets for marine operations, maintenance, and capital projects.
  • Oversee procurement of fuel, parts, and marine services; negotiate vendor contracts.
  • Maintenance & Asset Management
  • Ensure preventive maintenance, repairs, and refits are planned and executed efficiently.
  • Monitor vessel performance, certifications, and documentation to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor the use of HELM
  • Customer & Stakeholder Relations
  • Partner with sales, marketing, and events teams to ensure marine operations support business goals.
  • Serve as primary liaison with regulatory agencies, port authorities, and maritime vendors.
  • Ensuring the marine department provides excellent customer service
  • Strategic Initiatives
  • Lead process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Implement new technologies, sustainability practices, and operational innovations.
  • Requirements
  • Qualifications
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience working within the marine and passenger vessel industry.
  • Ability to clearly and concisely present technical subjects. Strong business & financial acumen, negotiating and cost control skills.
  • Proven experience with contract & vendor negotiation.
  • Project management and budgeting experience.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Coast Guard regulations, maritime safety standards, and vessel operations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven efficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook)
  • Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends as needed.
  • Safety first mindset.
  • Experience/ Education
  • 100 Ton Master's License required or engineer license (Near Coastal Preferred, Inland acceptable)
  • Preferred 3 years as Captain or marine management with an excellent safety record
  • Marine Operations Manager: 1 year (Preferred)

  • Salary: $100,000 + based on experience; plus 20% incentive potential based on annual goals.
