- Job Summary
- The Custodian/Day Porter ensures a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for students, staff, and visitors throughout the school day. This position focuses on maintaining restrooms, cafeteria, classrooms, and common areas, while responding promptly to cleaning needs.
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Restrooms
- Clean and sanitize toilets, sinks, and countertops.
- Refill soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
- Mop floors and disinfect high-touch surfaces.
- Plunging toilets and cleaning up overflow
- Report maintenance issues promptly.
- Cafeteria & Lunch Areas
- Wipe down tables and chairs after meal periods.
- Sweep and mop floors; remove spills promptly.
- Empty trash; transport waste to dumpsters.
- Classrooms & Common Areas
- Clean up spills and accidents during the day.
- Dust surfaces and sanitize high-touch points.
- Trash & Waste Management
- Empty trash cans and replace liners throughout the building, as needed.
- Sanitize waste receptacles as needed.
- Dispose of trash and recycling in designated areas.
- Follow all safety and sanitation protocols.
- Additional Duties
- Maintain exterior cleanliness (entrances, sidewalks, playground).
- Respond to urgent cleaning requests promptly.
- Schedule
- Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM – 3:30 PM (30 minute lunch)

- While performing the duties of this job, employee will comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to Easterseals Arkansas.
- This employee has no access to client files. Employee will not attempt to access any other protected health information unless otherwise approved by Supervisor or Privacy Officer.

Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience in a school or similar environment preferred.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and reliability.
Competencies
- Knowledge of proper cleaning and sanitizing techniques for restrooms, cafeteria, and classrooms
- Safe use of cleaning chemicals and custodial equipment
- Understanding of OSHA standards and school safety protocols
- Knowledge of correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Prompt reporting of hazards and maintenance issues
- Effective time management and prioritization of urgent cleaning needs
- Ability to clearly communicate with and receive communication from staff and supervisor
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries with students and visitors
- Ability to work collaboratively with school personnel
- Consistent attendance and punctuality
- Strong attention to detail in cleaning tasks
- Flexibility and adaptability to handle unexpected situations (spills, toilet clogs, etc.)
