We are looking for a skilled copy editor and editorial partner to support a range of high-profile, strategic writing projects at the intersection of design, technology, history, and community development. This is not a standard proofreading role. We’re seeking someone who can elevate thought-leadership content, refining complex ideas into polished, accessible, and intellectually rigorous narratives that resonate with philanthropic leaders, policy audiences, and the general public alike. You’ll help shape reports, frameworks, and public-facing pieces that carry influence at the national level. What You’ll Work On You’ll serve as the editorial lead for: • Strategic assessments and white papers • Briefing framework reports • Policy briefs and funding proposals • Executive presentations and public-facing publications • Narrative-based thought-leadership content Your Responsibilities • Refine tone and structure of writing to ensure clarity, coherence, and resonance with diverse audiences • Edit for sophistication and approachability, ensuring complex topics remain accessible without dumbing down • Integrate academic references, data, and history smoothly into narrative arcs • Ensure editorial consistency, brand voice, and professionalism across all documents • Prepare materials for board-level, funder, and investor review • Collaborate with the principal (and project team) to shape writing that reflects both visionary thinking and grounded strategy • Ensure documents meet the highest standards of editorial quality expected by institutional funders, design firms, cultural leaders, and national press outlets Qualifications • Demonstrated experience editing white papers, cultural reports, policy briefs, or design frameworks • Background in design, history, landscape architecture, urbanism, or community development (academic or professional) • Fluency in editing materials for both public audiences and professional institutions • Comfort engaging with projects that sit between academia, culture, and innovation • Ability to synthesize complex information into compelling, clean prose • Meticulous eye for detail, grammar, flow, and voice Ideal Partner Profile You’ve worked with: • Universities, think tanks, cultural institutions, or civic design practices • Texts that deal with public memory, heritage, storytelling, innovation, or place-based design • Projects that require balancing rigor and readability, strategy and soul • Teams building new ideas from scratch, who need documents to match their ambition
