- Position Description: Commodity Manager- Copper
- The Commodity Manager at LayerZero Power Systems is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for critical materials, components, and assemblies that enable the company’s advanced power distribution systems. This role ensures that supplier capacity, capability, and performance are tightly aligned with LayerZero’s rapidly growing demand. The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on able to balance immediate production requirements with long-term supply chain scalability. This position drives measurable supplier performance, mitigates risk, and ensures supply continuity through structured performance management, data-driven decision-making, and proactive supplier development.
- Requirements
Primary Duties
- Strategic Sourcing & Category Management
- · Develop and execute commodity strategies for key categories such as fabricated metals, electrical/electronic components, coatings, and custom assemblies.
- · Conduct in-depth market and supplier analysis to understand cost structures, capacity constraints, and emerging risks.
- · Lead the sourcing process from supplier identification and RFQ through contract negotiation and long-term strategic agreements.
- · Build and maintain a resilient, scalable supply base capable of meeting LayerZero’s production volume growth and new product introduction timelines.
- Supplier Capacity & Demand Alignment
- · Partner closely with Operations and SIOP teams to ensure supplier capacities are aligned with LayerZero’s production forecasts and growth plans.
- · Proactively assess supplier capacity, lead times, and scalability to support production ramp-ups and demand surges.
- · Develop capacity models and visibility tools to identify potential supply bottlenecks and implement mitigation strategies before they impact production.
- · Lead supplier readiness reviews for key programs and establish structured communication routines for demand planning alignment.
- Supplier Performance Management
- · Establish, track, and communicate supplier Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including on-time delivery, quality performance, lead time adherence, responsiveness, and cost competitiveness.
- · Conduct quarterly business reviews (QBRs) with suppliers to assess performance, communicate expectations, and drive continuous improvement.
- · Implement corrective action plans and improvement initiatives where performance gaps are identified.
- · Use data-driven insights to identify top-performing and at-risk suppliers, ensuring decisions are based on measurable outcomes.
- Cost, Risk, and Continuous Improvement
- · Identify and execute cost reduction and value engineering initiatives through volume leverage, alternate sourcing, and design collaboration.
- · Monitor raw material trends and global supply chain conditions to proactively manage cost and risk exposure.
- · Collaborate with suppliers to optimize logistics, reduce lead times, and enhance overall supply chain agility.
- · Participate in Lean / Six Sigma projects to streamline procurement and supplier management processes.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- · Partner with Engineering, Operations, SIOP, Quality, and Finance to ensure sourcing strategies support production planning, quality standards, and financial objectives.
- · Collaborate with Production Planning and Materials Management to manage supply-demand alignment and reduce inventory risk.
- · Support new product development (NPD) with supplier sourcing, capacity planning, and manufacturability input.
- ERP & Data Integration
- · Use ERP and analytics tools to manage supplier data, performance dashboards, and capacity planning insights.
- · Support LayerZero’s ongoing ERP system enhancement and data governance initiatives to improve visibility and decision-making.
Experience & Skills
- · Experience: 7+ years in commodity management, strategic sourcing, or supplier development in a manufacturing environment (electrical or electro-mechanical preferred).
- · Proven experience managing supplier capacity planning and performance improvement in high-growth operations.

Education
- · Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field; MBA preferred.
- · Preferred Certifications: CPSM, CSCP, or CLTD; Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher.
