We’re looking for a bilingual video editor (English and Spanish), ideally fluent in Mexican Spanish, to help edit a short segment for a documentary-style series. The series highlights prominent figures from around the world, exploring how their family history and genealogy have shaped who they are. The campaign promotes FamilySearch and RootsTech, the world’s largest family history conference organized by FamilySearch. This particular story features José Hernández, a Mexican American who went from working as a migrant farm worker as a boy to becoming the first Latino man to travel to space as a NASA astronaut. Project Overview In this segment, José reflects on his life journey. Toward the end, he and his parents review a family slideshow on an iPad, uncovering discoveries about their roots and heritage. The raw segment is about 14 minutes long, and we need to cut it down to a powerful 2–3 minute piece. The goal is to distill the most emotional, meaningful, and interesting moments from their discussion. Your edit will be integrated into a larger master film currently in progress. Responsibilities Edit and craft the 2–3 minute segment from the 14-minute Spanish-language footage. Identify and emphasize the most engaging and emotionally resonant dialogue and reactions. Review and lightly refine existing auto-translated English subtitles (accuracy will be checked later by a Spanish proofreader). Collaborate through up to three total review rounds as we refine with the client. Work quickly and efficiently, as this project is ready to begin immediately. What We’ll Provide Premiere Pro project files and footage. Working sequence with auto-generated English subtitles (as a rough guide). Direction and timecodes for the general section within the master edit where this piece fits. Ideal Candidate Native or fluent Mexican Spanish speaker. Strong storytelling instincts and ability to cut for emotion, clarity, and pacing. Experience editing documentary or interview-driven pieces. Proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro.
