POSITION SUMMARY

• The JFCS Holocaust Center seeks a visionary and collaborative Associate Director to advance Holocaust and genocide education across California. Reporting to the Director of the Holocaust Center, this role provides strategic and operational leadership for the California Teachers Collaborative for Holocaust and Genocide Education, a statewide network working to ensure that every middle and high school student in California has access to historically accurate, meaningful instruction.

• The Associate Director leads the design and implementation of high-quality professional learning, curriculum development, and statewide convenings, while strengthening partnerships with educators, districts, funders, and community organizations. Working closely with staff, they support program growth, evaluate impact, and ensure alignment with California standards and best practices.

• This role advances the Holocaust Center’s mission by fostering Jewish identity, historical understanding, and cross-community allyship through education, and by contributing to the integration of statewide education initiatives within the future expansion of the Holocaust Center facility. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of California’s education systems, strong leadership and project management skills, and a commitment to confronting antisemitism and hate through education.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

• Salary Range: $140,000 - $150,000 (depending on experience)
• Employment Type: Full-time, exempt with benefits
• Hybrid work schedule with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Strengthen organizational operations of the California Teachers Collaborative by building staff capacity, improving systems, and evaluating program impact with the Chief Research and Evaluation Director to inform strategic planning and the growth of major initiatives and conferences
• In partnership with the Director and senior leadership, envision how the California Teachers Collaborative will intersect with and be embedded within the expanded Holocaust Center, informing future program design, use of space, and community engagement
• Develop outreach strategies to engage teachers, administrators, and districts statewide
• Partner with the Director to set and achieve financial and operational goals
• Supervise and mentor staff, providing clarity, accountability, and professional development
• Foster a collaborative, mission-driven culture that promotes Jewish identity, empathy, and allyship through education
• Acts on behalf of the Holocaust Center Director in their absence
• Oversee the design and implementation of professional learning programs, conferences, and curricular resources that meet state standards and current instructional practices
• Ensure curriculum materials are adaptable, inclusive, and evidence-based, reflecting both Jewish experiences and universal lessons about justice and human rights
• Manage budgets and operations with the Director and Administrator, ensuring fiscal responsibility, efficient systems, and compliance with grant requirements
• Maintain strong relationships with funders, education agencies, and partner organizations; oversee data collection and reporting with the Chief Research and Evaluation Director to demonstrate impact and inform planning
• Partner with JFCS Marketing and Communications to manage the Collaborative’s website, publications, and digital outreach to promote the adoption of the Collaborative’s resources across California schools
• Strengthen partnerships with educators, policymakers, community organizations, and civic leaders to expand the reach and impact of the Holocaust Center and the Collaborative
• Represent the Holocaust Center at public events, conferences, and statewide meetings

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in education, Holocaust or genocide studies, Jewish studies, or related field required; advanced degree preferred
• Minimum of 5–7 years of relevant experience leading complex initiatives in education or nonprofit settings, with responsibility for supervising staff and coordinating cross-functional teams, and demonstrated success in program leadership, partnership development, and project management
• Extensive experience in California’s public and independent education systems, including district operations, teacher professional learning, and state standards
• Proven expertise in instructional and curriculum design for diverse educational settings
• Strong project management and organizational skills, including strategic planning, budgeting, and multi-stakeholder coordination
• Knowledge of Holocaust history, genocide studies, Jewish culture, and contemporary issues related to identity and inclusion
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas clearly
• Strategic thinker with sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Zoom; familiarity with Asana and Salesforce preferred
• Travel throughout California three to four times per year; occasional domestic or international travel may be required
• Valid California driver’s license, proof of insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle required
