Southeastern Louisiana University's Department of University Housing invites applications for the position of Area Coordinator. The Area Coordinator of Residential Life is a member of the professional staff in the Department of University Housing. The Area Coordinator is responsible for: 1) the management and supervision of multiple residence halls housing up to 750 students; 2) enhancing the growth and development of resident students living in the assigned area; and, 3) engaging in strategic planning and decision making within the Department of University Housing. The position requires that the Area Coordinator live on campus and share responsibility with colleagues on a rotating emerging response calendar for both weekdays and weekends. Area Coordinators anticipate for the irregular working hours, extended workdays, and all emergency response situations by being appropriately available to their staff and the resident students. The Area Coordinator should have a sound understanding of human development theories and student services concepts, while possessing good human relation and managerial skills. The Area Coordinator should be able to organize large and multiple projects, be competent in supervising a large and diverse student staff, and be competent in working with student groups and a diverse student population. Must possess a valid Louisiana driver's license and the ability to successfully complete the Southeastern Safe Driver Safety Course. Must be committed to working with diversity. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree from an accredited university. (required by hire date) One year of undergraduate/graduate student or professional experience in a housing, residential life, student affairs, or counseling discipline. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in college student personnel, higher education, counseling, or similarly related discipline from an accredited university. Experience with organizing, supervising and working with student groups and staff members; understanding of balancing a position that requires one to live on-campus with students and maintaining a non-traditional working schedule. Prior experience in University Housing preferred. DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS Possess a sound understanding of student development theories and good human relation, and managerial skills.
