Description of Work The Accreditation and Compliance Director leads the statewide Accreditation and Compliance Section within the NC Department of Adult Correction. This role is responsible for managing the process of achieving and maintaining American Correctional Association (ACA) accreditation across all prison facilities and central office operations. Operating under the supervision of a Correctional Administrator II, the position oversees a team of Compliance Auditors and Accreditation Managers who conduct comprehensive evaluations of operational disciplines including security, healthcare, programming, administration, and facilities. The Director develops audit methodologies, manages assessment schedules, coordinates interdisciplinary audit teams, and ensures consistent application of laws, standards, and policies. The role also includes providing consultation, training, and representation at national accreditation hearings, with frequent statewide travel required. Key Duties Include: - Lead the statewide ACA accreditation process across all correctional facilities and central offices. - Supervise and manage a team of Compliance Auditors and Accreditation Managers. - Develop and implement industry-standard audit tools, evaluation methods, and reporting systems. - Coordinate interdisciplinary audit teams and manage audit schedules to ensure timely assessments. - Review and approve audit findings and reports submitted by staff. - Provide consultation and training to facility leaders and staff on ACA standards and accreditation procedures. - Participate in selected audits and represent the department at national ACA conferences and hearings. - Serve on division-wide committees and contribute to policy development aligned with accreditation standards. - Guide facility personnel through accreditation preparation and corrective action planning. - Travel frequently to correctional facilities and DAC locations across the state. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Grade Range: $73,096 - $142,538 Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Demonstrated experience managing ACA accreditation processes or similar regulatory compliance programs in correctional or institutional settings. Proven experience developing and applying audit tools, performance metrics, and corrective action systems for operational evaluations. Documented experience supervising multidisciplinary teams preferably related to coordinating statewide program initiatives. Experience interpreting complex regulatory standards and implementing compliance strategies across diverse operational areas.
