Description of Work Salary Range: $35,984 - $62,971 Annually This is an Internal Posting open ONLY for current North Carolina State Government employees and eligible RIF Candidates from NC State Government. To include eligible current Temporary Employees. The primary purpose of this position is to audit and process both direct and matching invoices for the Department of Adult Correction in the Eastern Region, including those related to fleet products and services such as fuel, gas, oil, propane and other invoices both direct and matching. The Accounting Technician III is responsible for running and analyzing reports related to accounts payable activity and taking appropriate action, including making necessary entries or escalating to the Team Lead, creating spreadsheets to ensure timely payment of critical services. This position also serves as a lead, stepping in during the Team Lead’s absence to provide guidance, support team members, and ensure continuity of operations by offering direction as needed. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Management Preferences: Experience with NC Financial System (NCFS) and E-Procurement systems Proficient in MS Excel Communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders including vendors, managers, and auditors. Accounting principles and practices relevant to invoice and payment processing. Interpret and apply procurement and payment policies and procedures Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Review, verify, and process payments for goods and services using NCFS, ensuring accuracy in pricing, taxes, freight, and quantities. Process payments for non-PO items by validating required forms, supplier data, and accounting codes. Manage payments and maintain records for fuel-related purchases; ensure billing accuracy and vendor coordination. Resolve invoice discrepancies such as duplicate payments, tax or service charge errors, and unit mismatches; perform reconciliation and vendor follow-up. Act as liaison for vendors, auditors, and internal staff regarding payment issues; ensure timely and professional resolution. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. Associate’s degree in Accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in accounting; or High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience in accounting work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
